He received Academy Awards for his screenplays for the 1962 film To Kill a Mockingbird, which was adapted from the 1960 novel of the same name by Harper Lee, [1] and his original screenplay for the film Tender Mercies (1983).

Horton Foote was a Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist and Oscar-winning screenwriter, known for his adaptations of To Kill a Mockingbird, The Trip to Bountiful and Tender Mercies. He created the fictional town of Harrison, Texas, where he set many of his plays, and wrote about his family and childhood in his autobiography.
