Bestor was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church, or LDS). He came from a musical family—his grandfather played trumpet in many popular mid-western big bands, and a great uncle played trombone in Jack Benny's band.
