Levi Parsons Morton (May 16, 1824 – May 16, 1920) was a U.S. representative from New York and the 22nd vice president of the United States. He also later served as the 31st Governor of New York. Morton died on his 96th birthday at his home in Rhinebeck, New York on May 16, 1920 from bronchopneumonia.
Vice President Morton was best known for his conflict resolution in the Senate. As the presiding officer, he was dedicated to working out problems and forging compromise, even when this meant acting against the wishes of his own party.
This was the 26th inauguration and marked the commencement of the only four-year term of Benjamin Harrison as president and Levi P. Morton as vice president. Chief Justice Melville Fuller administered the presidential oath of office as rain poured down.
