3. Jan. 2015 · Virginia's 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives is represented by Donald Sternoff Beyer Jr. (D). As of the 2020 Census, Virginia representatives represented an average of 786,777 residents.
On January 24, 2014, Beyer announced his candidacy for Virginia's 8th congressional district to succeed retiring Democratic incumbent Jim Moran. It was his first partisan race since losing the 1997 gubernatorial election. He won the June 10 Democratic primary with 45.7% of the vote.
4. Apr. 2024 · Submit. All U.S. House districts, including the 8th Congressional District of Virginia, are holding elections in 2024. The general election is November 5, 2024. The primary is June 18, 2024. The filing deadline was April 4, 2024. The outcome of this race will affect the partisan balance of the U.S. House in 2025.
It comprises several populous suburbs in Northern Virginia, including all of Alexandria, Arlington, and Falls Church, as well as parts of Fairfax County. Democrat Don Beyer has held the seat since 2015. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of D+26, it is the most Democratic district in Virginia.
On December 28, 2021, the Virginia Supreme Court finalized new congressional districts for 2023-2033. The 8th District was redrawn as part of this process. The new 8th District still includes all of Arlington County, Alexandria City, and Falls Church City. The changes to the district were made in the Fairfax County portions of the district .
