Wharton Tiers (born 1953, in Philadelphia) is an American audio engineer, record producer, drummer and percussionist . Biography. After receiving a diploma from Villanova University (Radnor Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania), he moved to New York City in 1976 and was part of the No Wave scene.
Biography. Wharton Tiers was born in Philadelphia in birth year of the Stratocaster. He graduated from Villanova University and moved to NYC in 1976. He played drums and percussion with many downtown bands including Theoretical Girls and Laurie Anderson.
Das Album wurde mit Wharton Tiers im Studio Fun City in New York City aufgenommen. Tiers fungierte zugleich als Produzent und Toningenieur und übernahm die Abmischung des Albums. Der Klang des Albums wird als rau und ungeschliffen beschrieben.
Produziert wurde Urban Discipline von Wharton Tiers und der Band. Die Aufnahmen fanden in Tiers’ Haus in Manhattan statt. Laut dem Gitarristen Billy Graziadei konnte die Band immer nur bis fünf Uhr morgens arbeiten, da Tiers’ Ehefrau nach dieser Zeit keinen Lärm mehr duldete.

Wharton Tiers has run Fun City studios out of his Manhattan basement since 1981. He's recorded some of the finest records by Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Helmet, Unrest and many more. It's an unimposing place, and not very large, but the records he makes sound amazing.
