Die Geschichte Kataloniens reicht bis in das Jahr 1000 v. Chr. zurück, als die Iberer die Pyrenäenhalbinsel besiedelten. Vor der Besiedelung durch Cro-Magnon-Menschen (Homo sapiens) war die Region bereits von Neandertalern bewohnt, wie Funde in der Höhle Cova Gran de Santa Linya belegen.
