Economic theorizing dates back to the time of Aristotle, but it was François Quesnay (1694-1774) who first formulated a model describing a whole economy, with empirical relevance and clear-cut, radical policy implications for the French economy and society.

François Quesnay [ fʀɑ̃ˈswa kɛˈnɛ] (* 4. Juni 1694 in Méré / Montfort-l’Amaury [1] bei Versailles; † 16. Dezember 1774 in Versailles) war ein französischer Chirurg und Ökonom. Er gilt als Begründer der physiokratischen Schule der Ökonomie und Enzyklopädist. [2]
François Quesnay tritt als erster wirtschaftspolitischer Berater einer Regierung in Erscheinung. Der Arzt hat sich gewissermaßen zum Ziel gesetzt, die „kranke“ Wirtschaft des vorrevo - lutionären Frankreich zu „heilen“.
