Henri Philippe Benoni Omer Joseph Pétain (* 24. April 1856 in Cauchy-à-la-Tour, Département Pas-de-Calais; † 23. Juli 1951 in Port-Joinville, Île d’Yeu, Département Vendée) war ein französischer Militär, Diplomat und Politiker. Pétain bleibt Regierungschef im unbesetzten Frankreich. Er lehnt einen aktiven Widerstand gegen die deutsche Besatzung ab und setzt stattdessen auf eine handlungsfähige französische Regierung. Er will damit eine völlige Besetzung Frankreichs verhindern.
