Apr. 2019 · Monash South Africa (MSA), a joint venture between Laureate Education Inc. and Monash University, has been sold to The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), South Africa’s largest private higher education provider and a wholly owned subsidiary of the publicly listed ADvTECH Group.
The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) became the owner and legal operator of the former Monash South Africa (MSA) campus in April 2019. The campus is now called IIE MSA.
The IIE MSA was founded in 2001 as Monash South Africa by Monash University, an Australian university named after a civil engineer, John Monash. The university was built on an agriculture land in Ruimsig, Roodeport. The first class intake at the IIE MSA was in geography and environmental sciences.

In 2001, Monash South Africa opened its doors in Johannesburg, making Monash the first foreign university in South Africa. The same year, the university secured an 18th-century Tuscan palace to open a research and teaching centre in Prato, Italy.
In 2019, it became part of The Independent Institute of Education and is now IIE MSA. It offers a high-quality education that translates to a global, young audience of learners as well as workers. Their curricula remain deeply rooted in Africa but are still recognised internationally.
