Luxembourgers ( / ˈlʌksəmbɜːrɡərz / LUK-səm-bur-gərz; Luxembourgish: Lëtzebuerger [ˈlətsəbuəjɐ] ⓘ) are an ethnic group native to their nation state of Luxembourg, where they make up around half of the population. They share the culture of Luxembourg and speak Luxembourgish, a West Germanic language .
The foreign population resident in Luxembourg currently numbers over 313,407, corresponding to 47.43% of the total population (compared to 13.2% in 1961). That means there are currently almost as many immigrants as there are native citizens.
The people of Luxembourg are called Luxembourgers. The immigrant population increased in the 20th century due to the arrival of immigrants from Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, and Portugal; the latter comprised the largest group. In 2013 about 88,000 Luxembourg inhabitants possessed Portuguese nationality.
Today, Luxembourg has a population of 672,050 people with an incredible diversity. In fact, almost 47.3% of the population doesn't have Luxembourgish nationality! And this does not even take into account the 228,400 cross-border commuters who work in Luxembourg.
