Four buildings are part of the newer Sixth Avenue expansion: 1211 Avenue of the Americas, the former Celanese Building, is located between 47th and 48th streets. The 592-foot-tall (180 m) tower opened in 1974.
Description. Architect: Harrison Abramovitz and Abbe. This project is the third in the trio of the X-Y-Z project "slab" buildings constructed by the Rockefeller Group. The other two being 1251 Avenue of the Americas (aka Exxon Bldg.) and the McGraw-Hill Building (1221 Ave. of the Americas).
