Hachioji, Tokyo 八王子 東京都. Hachioji is a city of about 580,000 inhabitants, located in the southwest of the Tama region west of central Tokyo. The JR Chuo Line directly connects Hachioji with Shinjuku and Tokyo stations, the Yokohama Line provides frequent direct service to Yokohama.

Just one hour from downtown Tokyo, Hachioji has lush green parks, and some quality museums. The city is surrounded on three sides by mountains, including Mt. Takao (599 m) and Mt. Jinba (855 m), two popular hiking destinations.
