The Elegants. American doo-wop vocal group, that was started in 1958 by Vito Picone, Arthur Venosa, Frank Tardogno, Carmen Romano and James Moschella in South Beach, Staten Island, New York. Before their nursery rhyme inspired song, "Little Star", became a number one hit, the band usually performed informally under the boardwalk by their homes.
The Elegants originally released Little Star written by André Campra, Jane Taylor, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Vito Picone and Arthur Venosa and The Elegants released it on the single Little Star in 1958. It was covered by Grains of Time, Dion, Bobby Vee, The Orlons and other artists.
Frank Jeckell is a founding member of the “1910 Fruitgum Company” logging 3 top ten Gold records; “Simon Says”, “1 2 3 Red Light” and “Indian Giver” between 1968 and 1969.
