Founding Chordettes member Jinny Osborn listened to the dulcet harmonies of barbershop singing as a young girl in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She came by her exposure to this uniquely American musical form through her father ’ s association with the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, Inc., a group formed during the late 1930s.

The group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001.
