3. Nov. 2019 · Cupid was a god, and, as beautiful as he was, he did not want his mortal wife to see his form. Psyche's sister didn't know he was a god, although they may have suspected it. However, they did know that Psyche's life was much happier than theirs. Knowing their sister well, they preyed on her insecurities and persuaded Psyche that her husband was a hideous monster.
While Psyche delivers the box, Cupid flies to Jupiter and asks permission to marry Psyche. The supreme god (according to another tale, the messenger of the gods, Mercury) is lenient and hands Psyche a cup of ambrosia, thereby making her immortal, so that nothing stands in the way of a wedding among the gods.
21. Dez. 2018 · A Drop of Oil Unmasks a God. Psyche is persuaded, and that evening, dagger in hand, she lights her lamp only to discover that the object of her plot is the adult god Cupid himself. Wakened by a drop of oil from the lamp, he flies away. Pregnant, Psyche attempts suicide and when that fails, she asks her mother-in-law Venus for assistance.
