31. Dez. 2009 · Though it is not known for certain, Blind Willie Johnson, born in 1897, may have entered the world in Marlin, Texas…a railroad town in the heart of cotton country. His death certificate, however, states Independence, Texas. What we do know is that his mother died when he was still very young, and his father remarried soon after.
On that piece and eleven others, Johnson played bottleneck guitar (reportedly with a pocketknife), and it is this technique for which he is most famous, but on the remainder of his recordings he exhibited a nimble picking style that I find every bit as pleasing as the more popular bottleneck material.
