Carell (1925-2021), un ingegnere elettrico di origini italiane e tedesche (il cognome del padre originariamente era Caroselli, ma lo cambiò legalmente in Carell nel 1950), e di Harriet Theresa Koch, un'infermiera psichiatrica (1925–2016) di origini polacche.
