Derrick Brooks. Football player Derrick Brooks was born on April 18, 1973 in Pensacola, Florida to Geraldine Brooks and John Brooks. Raised by his mother and stepfather, Arthur Mitchel, Brooks graduated from Pensacola’s Booker T. Washington High School in 1990, and enrolled at Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee.
Derrick Brooks played 14 seasons for the Buccaneers. He had 681 solo tackles, 218 assists, 13.5 sacks, 4 fumble recoveries and 25 interceptions. He was selected to play in 11 Pro Bowls. He won 1 Defensive Player of the Year award, the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award and 1 championship. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014.
