12. Mai 2007 · Director Juraj Herz was born on 4 September 1934 in Kežmarok, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia). Interestingly, acclaimed Czech animator Jan Švankmajer was born on that very day. Although Herz attended the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU) with directors such as Jaromil Jireš, Jiří Menzel, Evald Schorm and Věra Chytilová, he studied in the puppetry department with Švankmajer.

Po válce studoval na bratislavské Střední uměleckoprůmyslové škole fotografii a po ní na loutkářské fakultě DAMU režii a herectví.
27. Dez. 2020 · Původně Juraj Herz vystudoval fotografii na Umělecko-průmyslové škole v Bratislavě, později obor režie a loutkoherectví na pražské divadelní fakultě. Návštěvníci divadla Semafor ho poznali jako herce i režiséra během jeho zdejšího krátkého působení v letech 1960 a 1961. Před kamerou měl herecký debut ve filmu Z. Brynycha
Juraj Herz žil s herečkou Martinou Hudečkovou, která byla jeho třetí osudovou dámou. Slavný režisér byl dvakrát ženatý. Se svou druhou chotí, jíž byla Tereza Pokorná , se rozvedl po třiadvacetiletém manželství. Režisér Juraj Herz zemřel 8. dubna 2018. Bylo mu 83 let.
