Although Henry Lehrman is little remembered today, he was as much of a comedy film pioneer as his associate Mack Sennett. During his time working for Sennett's Keystone studios, Lehrman helped mold an enduring, albeit crude, brand of slapstick that made the transition into the sound era, even if Lehrman's career had already faltered by then.

Henry Lehrman werd in 1886 geboren in Wenen, Oostenrijk-Hongarije en emigreerde op jonge leeftijd naar Amerika. Hij begon zijn carrière als acteur in 1909 bij de Biograph Studios onder regie van D.W. Griffith. Hij kreeg de bijnaam "Pathé" omdat hij naar zeggen werk als acteur verkregen had doordat hij aan de bazen van de filmstudio verteld ...
Henry Lehrman besuchte eine Handelsakademie in Wien und absolvierte anschließend seinen Militärdienst als k.u.k. Leutnant auf der Festung Przemyśl. [1] 1908 wanderte er ohne Englischkenntnisse in die Vereinigten Staaten aus, wo er die Landessprache im personal-contact system erlernte. [2]
