The bland title says it all. Actually, it's a little misleading. This ain't Anthony Mann's "T-Men". This film is not about agents working undercover. The title is only befitting for the set-up of our picture. Glenn Ford plays an agent for the Treasury Department who is to meet with "the undercover man".

T he Undercover Man is a fine example of the kind of procedural film noir thriller which was popular in the late 1940s and which is fascinating to watch today. It was directed with great flair by Joseph H Lewis who is better known for his subsequent noir masterpieces Deadly Is the Female (1950) (a.k.a. Gun Crazy) and The Big Combo (1955).
