She was born on May 29, 1660, most likely at ‘Holywell House,’ St. Albans, Hertfordshire. Her parents were Richard Jennings and Frances Thornhurst.

Five years her senior, Sarah was Anne’s closest confidant and potential lover, a possible relationship exposed by scandalous memoirs published by Sarah after Anne’s death.

  7. Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough survived her husband by twenty-two years, dying on October 18, 1744, aged 84, at Marlborough House in London, England. Following Sarah’s instructions, John’s remains were transferred from Westminster Abbey to the chapel at Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England where he was interred with Sarah.
