"CGoban" without a version number usually refers to the first program, which was developed to be a client for Unix and X11 machines to connect to servers with protocols similar to that of IGS. CGoban2 and CGoban3, while full SGF editors and readers, are clients only for KGS. Also, while CGoban is a C program, CGoban 2 and CGoban 3 are written in Java.
At the moment (aug.'2012, and since some jears) cgoban.jar cannot give urls to the system (other Java programs can!). Possibly this is the price for an actual Java version. Start CGoban by the .jnlp file and the links will work. Try running the Java thingy - javacpl.exe & 'Advanced' tab - lots of choices - something may work :-)
18. Dez. 2008 · CGoban 1 is a GPL'd client which is a great way to run GNU Go on GNU/Linux or Unix. (Note: CGoban2 is a different program and cannot be used for this.) The last CGoban release by Bill Shubert was CGoban 9.12. Currently CGoban 1 is being maintained again and the latest release is available here.
