Vor 5 Tagen · The priory was dissolved on October 27th, 1539, and the church became parochial, the dedication being altered to St. Saviour and the parishes of St. Mary Magdalene and St. Margaret, Southwark, being amalgamated. The E. ambulatory was walled off and used as a bake-house, but was restored to the church in 1576.

1. Juli 2024 · The church was conveyed to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, and became the chapter-house of St. Saviour's after that church had acquired a collegiate constitution. (fn. 77) The Corporation of London, as governors of the hospital, were released from all obligations with regard to the benefice, and the advowson of the united parishes was vested in the patrons of St. Saviour's.
The church was renamed St Thomas the Apostle following the abolition of the Becket cult in 1538 during the Reformation . The present church was built by the Hospital Governors to designs by Thomas Cartwright in 1703. It had a garret that was called the Herb Garret in 1821. In the same year, the Old Operating Theatre was built in the Herb Garret.
