5. März 2011 · English: Caley Mill - home of Norfolk Lavender, Heacham, Norfolk The Caley Mill was built in 1837 from local carr stone and was used until 1923. The upper floors were used for grain storage, the grinding equipment was on the first floor and the ground floor was where the flour was stored. The ground floor now houses the gift shop and the former miller's cottage is the tea room.
Heacham started to become popular as a seaside resort with the Victorians due to the opening of the railway line between King’s Lynn and Hunstanton in the early 1860s. Today the north Beach has an amusement arcade, café and fish bar and beach huts for hire. South Beach has its own café/gift shop and both beaches have public toilets.
John Metcalfe was born in Heacham, Norfolk, on 6 October 1891. He studied philosophy at the University of London, graduating in 1913. Metcalfe then taught in Paris until 1914. War and after. During the First World War, he served in the Royal Naval Division, the Royal Naval Air Service, and then in the Royal Air Force.
