Dass in The Suicide Squad nicht alles funktioniert, kann man Gunn verzeihen. Immerhin traut er sich, gewohnte Bahnen zu verlassen, hemmungslos zwischen unterschiedlichen Genres herumzuspringen, Wahnsinn zum höchsten Prinzip zu erheben und die Absurdität seiner Story, auch mit ironisch eingesetzten Musikstücken, regelrecht zu zelebrieren.
