The original members were Harold ‘Hal’ Lucas, John ‘Buddy’ Bailey, Mathew McQuater and Harold Winley, who all attended the Armstrong High School in Washington, D.C. While Harold Winley got some glass in his eyes, the rest escaped unharmed.
