Johnny Shines biography Johnny Shines (April 26, 1915 – April 20, 1992) was an American blues singer and guitarist. According to the music journalist Tony Russell, Shines was that rare being, a blues artist who overcame age and rustiness to make music that stood up beside the work of his youth.

Johnny Shines (26 April 1915-20 April 1992) was born in Memphis, Tennessee and played guitar in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas in his early years. He is probably best known for his association with Robert Johnson , when they traveled together between 1935 and 1937.
