Pee Wee Ellis. Alfred Ellis (born April 21, 1941, Bradenton, Florida, USA - died September 23, 2021) was an American saxophonist, composer, arranger, producer, and band leader. Pee Wee was the leader of the James Brown band from 1965 to 1969. He wrote the instrumental song "The Chicken" later popularized by Jaco Pastorius .

25. Nov. 2019 · Der Saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis, 78, wuchs in Texas auf und spielte schon Mitte der Fünfziger Jazz in New York. Von 1965 bis 1969 prägte er den damaligen Sound von James Brown, danach arbeitete er als Produzent und Arrangeur fürs Jazzlabel Kudu. 1979 begann eine längere Zusammenarbeit mit Van Morrison, mit dem er erst im Herbst 2019 wieder zusammen auf der Bühne stand.
