Liutprand, obwohl Analphabet, war dennoch eine der hervorragendste langobardische Herrscherpersönlichkeit. Die Dynastie Ansprands konnte sich allerdings nicht halten. Hildeprand , sein Neffe und seit 736 sein Mit-König, blieb nach seinem Tod 744 nur wenige Monate an der Macht.
