Im Jahre 1813 kehrte Cauchy nach Paris zurück, wurde 1816 zum Mitglied der Pariser Akademie ernannt, nicht gewählt, und wurde Professor an der Ecole Polytechnique. Diese schnelle Karriere verdankte Cauchy den wieder regierenden Bourbonen, die die Familie Cauchy für ihren konsequenten Katholizismus und ihre Monarchietreue (!) belohnen wollten.
