Ann Miller began tap dancing at the age of 5 to strengthen her bones after having rickets. While still being homeschooled, she worked as a dancer in nightclubs while just 13 years old, to support her mother who was hearing impaired and struggled to hold down a job. Her father was a well-known criminal defense lawyer.
