In 1971 namen de Bar-Kays de eerste zanger van de groep aan, Larry Dobson. Het album Black Rock bevatte veel invloeden van rock en funk van Sly and the Family Stone en Funkadelic. In augustus 1972 namen ze deel aan het muziekfestival Wattstax. De band werd als gevolg van hun optreden aldaar weer gewaardeerd door het publiek.
25. Okt. 2023 · The Bar-Kays were a popular Memphis, Tennessee, soul, R&B, and funk group performing from 1966 that continues in some form to perform today, although with only one original member. They began as a favorite soul studio sessions group backing major artists at Stax Records, chosen in 1967 by Otis Redding to play as his touring backup band.
