He sang with big bands, such as the Count Basie Orchestra and the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, and with small combos. He sang in two films with the Basie orchestra and sometimes worked as an actor.

14. Juli 2018 · Count Basie Swings, Joe Williams Sings (Clef MG C-678) was the first album featuring Joe Williams (1918-1999) as the vocalist of the Count Basie orchestra. Basie and Williams first real encounter would take place in 1954, and from that year until 1961, Williams remained the singer for the band, rising to national prominence with Basie.

As "The Greatest!!" is selected by Verve to appear on the front cover, this seems to be the most preferred artistic version and should be a first choice for filing purposes.
