Feb. 2007 · However most modern pop music has many roots in this time, and the large number of women that now adorn The Charts owe their place to the pioneering work by Helen Shapiro and those who followed her in the 1960s. This compilation is not to be missed by anyone seriously interested in the evolution of popular music or who just wants a bit of nostalgia after half a nearly century.

21. Jan. 2019 · A's B's & EP's shares 12 tracks with the equally fine collection Helen Shapiro at Abbey Road: 1961-1967. You really can't go wrong with either one, though the Abbey Road collection gets the nod for having better liner notes and track annotations. Actually, you will probably want all the Helen Shapiro you can get your hands on once you hear her amazing voice.
Helen Shapiro. She was born Helen Kate Shapiro on 28th September 1946 in Bethnal Green, London, the granddaughter of Russian Jewish immigrants. Her parents were pieceworkers in the garments industry and she had a fairly straightforward - if underprivileged - working class upbringing, spending her early childhood in council house in Clapton.
