He was at Tony's bedside when he died at a Nottingham council flat on August 18, 2003, shortly after his 65th birthday. Mike was pall-bearer at Tony's funeral held in Nottingham and he gave a very moving speech in tribute to his former band-mate. This well-illustrated and well-researched book is a must for all Searchers and Tony Jackson fans.
It was around two years ago that fans of The Searchers were eagerly awaiting the release of a definitive box-set of their recordings, including rarities, demos, interviews and live recordings, mainly from the 1962 - 1985 period, with Mike Pender featuring on most of the tracks. Mike, of course, left the band in 1985 to set up his own group.
Mike Pender's Searchers still travel the UK and many continents singing, playing and creating that distinctive sound which has become a legend in popular music. Two big hits of the sixties still heard regularly on the airwaves today, sung by Mike Pender with his trade mark 12-string guitar, are 'Needles and Pins' and 'When You Walk in the Room'.

Since 20-bit and 24-bit remastering have become the norm, however, the only challenge for Sanctuary Records (or the Sequel and Castle Records imprints) seems to be how inexpensive they can make the group's U.K. CDs, and also how many different reissues and compilations ...

The rest of the tracks, except one, would be included as part of 1992's 30th Anniversary collection. After a farewell performance in London in December 1985 Mike Pender left the group to form a new band and now tours as Mike Pender's Searchers. McNally and Allan recruited former First Class vocalist Spencer James as Pender's replacement.
