Katherine Thalberg was the daughter of fabled Hollywood mogul Irving Thalberg and actress Norma Shearer.Born in Santa Monica, Calif., on June 14, 1935, and "raised on the beach," according to Stirling, she learned to ski at the age of 3 in Sun Valley, Idaho.
The romance of Thalberg and Norma Shearer was one of the happiest in Hollywood and their marriage a perfect union. It was blessed by Irving, Jr., six, and Katherine, one. Thalberg's untimely passing came at the height of his career, when his "Romeo and Juliet," starring Miss Shearer and Leslie Howard, had been universally acclaimed a history making motion picture.
