9. Jan. 2023 · The murder of Don Myrick. Several years after Earth, Wind & Fire reunited, per AllMusic, the band faced another horrific tragedy when one of their former members, saxophonist Don Myrick, was shot and killed by a Santa Monica police officer.

30. Juli 1993 · Myrick was killed July 30, 1993, while police were serving a search warrant. Santa Monica Police said Officer Gary Barbaro fired one shot after mistaking a butane lighter in Myrick's hand for a weapon. Myrick's family settled a wrongful-death lawsuit against the city of Santa Monica for $400,000. The settlement ended litigation brought by Myrick's mother, wife and three daughters.
