John Le Mesurier (born John Elton Le Mesurier Halliley; 5 April 1912 – 15 November 1983) was an English actor and comedian. He is best remembered for his comedic role as Sergeant Arthur Wilson in the BBC television situation comedy Dad's Army (1968–77).
John Le Mesurier was an English actor with a prolific career on stage, film, radio and television, primarily in comedies and/or comic roles. Noted for his suave, often vague or confused demeanour, he rose to particular prominence in ITV sitcom George And The Dragon, before being cast in his defining role, as minor aristocrat Sergeant Wilson in Dad's Army.
