Mit „Cannibal Holocaust“ gelang Ruggero Deodato ein wirklich bemerkenswerter Film. Der Film ist absolut grausam, ist schwerlich als unterhaltend zu bezeichnen, hat jedoch neben all der Gewalt und Exploitation tatsächlich sowas wie eine Aussage und ist vielleicht der einzige intelligente Beitrag zu diesem Subgenre.
