William Hamilton, the 2nd Duke of Hamilton, was a man of many titles, born in the grand Hamilton Palace in December 1616. His education at the University of Glasgow led him to the courts of Europe, where he found favour with Louis XIII of France. But it was upon his return to England, aged just 21, that Hamilton truly began to shine, establishing himself as a favourite of Charles I.
