On Wednesday, 3 June, Raimonds Vējonis was elected as the President of Latvia. In the fifth round of elections, using a secret ballot, 55 MPs voted for and 42 MPs voted against Vējonis. Pursuant to the Constitution, the President of Latvia is elected with a majority of at least 51 votes. Raimonds Vējonis was the Minister for Defence.

8. Juli 2019 · Raimonds Vējonis aizsardzības ministra amatā uzsāka un Valsts prezidenta amatā aktīvi turpināja strādāt, lai šis mērķis tiktu sasniegts jau 2018. gadā. Vienmēr iestājoties par šī lēmuma izpildi, ir panākts, ka ievērojami uzlabots arī Zemessardzes ekipējums, apmācības un kaujas spējas, kā arī palielinājies Jaunsargu skaits Latvijā.

Raimonds Vējonis became the President of Latvia on 8th July 2015. Prior to his appointment, President Vējonis was the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development for almost nine years, and a MP of the Saeima (Parliament) as well.
