Marcelin Berthelot (1827- 1907) was one of the most famous and creative French chemists of the 19th century. He published more than 1500 papers and about 20 books on synthetic organic und physiological chemistry, thermochemistry and explosives and on the early history of chemistry.

Pierre Eugène Marcellin Berthelot FRS FRSE ( ; 25 Ekim 1827 - 18 Mart 1907), termokimyanın Berthelot prensibiyle tanınan Fransız kimyager ve Cumhuriyetçi politikacıydı. İnorganik maddelerden birçok organik bileşik sentezledi [2] Jöns Jakob Berzelius'un organik bileşiklerin sentezlerinde organizmalara ihtiyaç duyduğu yönündeki teorisine büyük miktarda karşı kanıt sağladı.
