Vincent van Gogh starb am 29. Juli 1890 kurz nach ein Uhr nachts im Gasthof Ravoux in Auvers-sur-Oise. Der holländische Maler hatte sich am Nachmittag des 27. Juli 1890 eine Schussverletzung im Oberbauch zugezogen; die Kugel steckte noch und konnte nicht entfernt werden. Rund 30 Stunden nach seiner Verletzung verstarb er an einer Sepsis.
