1966 heiratete Hyer den Filmproduzenten Hal B. Wallis, mit dem sie bis zu dessen Tod im Jahr 1986 in Rancho Mirage lebte. Wallis recaptured his former post when Zanuck left to found 20th Century in 1933; he went on to oversee numerous fine productions, including a number of 1930s musicals, several biopics and many of the gangster pictures with which the studio would become synonymous.
Hal B. Wallis werd geboren als Aaron Blum Wolowicz in een Pools - Joods immigrantengezin in Chicago. Hij kwam in 1922 naar Los Angeles en leidde er een tijdlang een bioscoop.
