Seit 1998 wohnt John Hughes in Hamburg. Er spielt Kontrabass in verschiedenen Gruppen u.a. bei Hosho, Rocket No.9, The Low End, Winnitzki/Hughes/Lücker, Eisenrot, Piho Hupo und in der Zead Khawam's Oriental Band. Neben Soloprojekten arbeitet er mit Tänzern und Künstlern in interdisziplinären Aktionen.
