Cooder heeft veel gewerkt als sessiemuzikant, onder meer bij vele film- soundtracks heeft meegewerkt. Cooder verzorgde de filmmuziek voor onder meer Paris, Texas (1984) van Wim Wenders. Ook speelde hij in Captain Beefheart ’s Magic Band. In 2008 verscheen Cooders trilogie: Chavez Ravine, My name is Buddy en I, Flathead.
Here we have a live track released in 1977 from the live album Showtime which is a combination of a Tex-Mex polka piece and a Woody Guthrie song. Ry Cooder’s cover of “Do Re Mi” was originally featured on his 1970 debut. Both of the tracks have a heavy political stance and date back to the 1940’s and 50’s.
Ry Cooders first solo outing from 1970, after The Rising Sons and Captain Beefheart he was on his way with what has become a truly great cd (LP), with songs like Alimony, Do Re Mi, Goin to Brownsville and instrumentals, Available Space and the classic slide of "Dark Is The Night".Cooder had (still has) the touch, both on guitar and mandolin, a fine musician with a classic album.
Ry Cooder, właśc. Ryland Peter Cooder [1] (ur. 15 marca 1947 w Los Angeles w Kalifornii [1]) – amerykański gitarzysta, piosenkarz i autor tekstów piosenek. W swej twórczości sięgał do wielu gatunków muzycznych, m.in. do muzyki folkowej, bluesowej, hawajskiej, teksańsko-meksykańskiej, muzyki wyspy Okinawa, oraz afrykańskiej.
Ry Cooder gehört für mich, seit ihn Anfang der 80er Jahre zum ersten Mal hörte, zu den von mir hochgeschätzten Lieblingsmusikern. Alleine das Mitwirken von Cooder auf der Platte oder Song eines anderen Künstlers, sei es nun John Hiatt’s Bring The Family oder von mir aus auch Sticky Fingers von den Stones, wertet diese in meinen Ohren stets um einiges auf.
