Nascida na França, Inês Armand foi criada por sua avó e tia em Moscou, na Rússia, desde que seu pai faleceu quando ela tinha apenas 15 anos. Casou-se duas vezes ao longo de sua vida, mas seu último casamento terminou quando seu marido, Vladimir Armand, morreu devido a uma tuberculose.
