Young Marble Giants evokes (perhaps unintentionally) the ambience of 1950s beatniks, linking them to the experiments of Brian Eno and Robert Fripp. After that album and two EPs (Final Day and the instrumental Testcard), Alison Statton became the frontwoman of many different musical projects, while the remaining members formed Gist.
Young Marble Giants. Cardiff’s Young Marble Giants — singer Alison Statton and the Moxham brothers, Philip (bass) and Stuart (guitar, organ) — managed to stay together long enough to produce one oddball album before apathy got the upper hand. Using few overdubs, Colossal Youth re-creates the mythical ambience of a beatnik coffeehouse.
Young Marble Giants. Welsh post-punk band formed in Cardiff, Wales, in 1978. Their music was based around the vocals of Alison Statton along with the minimalist instrumentation of brothers Philip and Stuart Moxham. They released one studio album, Colossal Youth, in 1980. They also released two EPs and recorded a John Peel session.
