1985 kamen Marlon McClain und Keith Harrison für Fearman und Friedrich zur Dazz Band. Es folgten 1986 ein Labelwechsel zu Geffen Records und das letzte Chartalbum Wild and Free, nach dessen Veröffentlichung die Band bei RCA Records unterschrieb. 1988 folgte das vorerst letzte Album Rock the Room. Skip Martin ging zu Kool & the Gang.
In 1985, both Eric Fearman and Sennie "Skip" Martin (trumpet, vocalist) left the group and were replaced by guitarist Marlon McClain; and the search began for additional vocalists that would match the Dazz Band sound. In 1986, the Dazz Band recorded Wild & Free (1986), which featured Jerry Bell as lead vocalist, and was released by Geffen Records.
